Preliminary Appraisal of the Archeological and Paleontological Resources of Des Lacs Reservoir North Dakota
Author(s): J. J. Bauxar
Year: 1947
Summary
This is a preliminary report of an archeological reconnaissance of the Des Lacs Reservoir area. The purposes of the reconnaissance were to investigate the archeological and paleontological significance of the area, to determine to what extent archeological and paleontological sites will be damaged by construction of the reservoir, and to determine what further survey and excavation is necessary to preserve a record of the prehistory of the area.
This report is based on the results of a one-day survey made by Paul L. Cooper and J. Joseph Bauxar, archeologists for the River Basin Surveys, on September 10, 1946. When the survey for the Dakotas was organized, the information available indicated only a power plant for the Des Lacs project and the scheduled itinerary drawn up provided time for a survey of the power plant site only.
