Author(s): Ross H. Cordy

Year: 1975

Summary

The past year (1975) further archaeological work has been undertaken in the Bellows area (Waimanalo ahupua'a, Oahu), both at 018 and adjacent sites. The aim of this analysis is to review some of the problems of the past analyses and to present the recent excavation data from 018.

Criticisms focus upon stratigraphic control and dating of features, artifacts, and midden within layers and the analysis of resulting patterns. It must be noted that the intentions of the criticism here is to improve and advance interpretations of the data. 018 data have been used for studying economics and social units at the site, for formulating and island-wide sequence of artifact assemblages to compare with other island chains and search for origins, and for analyzing early era economic and social patterns in Hawaii. Our aim is to continue work on such past problems but additionally to analyze inner-site relations in the area.
