Summary

This report presents the results of archaeological monitoring and sampling conducted during the installation of a buried waterline at Bellows Air Force Station (BAFS) on O'ahu. Archaeological monitoring was conducted to determine the presence of cultural resources, to assess the nature and chronology of the features/sites identified, and to assess the significance of identified resources. This work was conducted for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) (Contract DACA83-00-P-0038) in accordance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), as amended.

BAFS is on the windward coast of O' ahu Island, District of Ko'olaupoko, ahupua 'a of Waimanalo, TMK 01-04-01:15. BAFS is defined on the east by Waimanalo Bay, to the north and northwest by the Keolu Hills, on the southwest by Waimanalo Stream, and on the south by the Waimanalo State Recreation area and Kalaniana'ole Highway. The waterline corridor traverses the Waimanalo Plain at the north end of BAFS.
