POLLEN, PHYTOLITH, AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT 42KA3426, UTAH

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings

Year: 1990

Summary

Pollen, phytolith, and macrofloral samples were analyzed from 42KA3426

to contribute to the interpretation of the nature of the site. The

occupation was radiocarbon dated to 520 ± 60 BP, which yields a calibrated

age of AD 1330-1430, with a mean of AD 1380 ± 50. This occupation is post-

Pueblo in age and contained no diagnostic artifacts. Located within the

Southern Paiute homeland and within a few miles of the Navajo Reservation,

the site contained three hearths and/or fire-cracked rock concentrations.

It is possible that these concentrations represent sweat lodges.
