STRATIGRAPHIC POLLEN AND PHYTOLITH ANALYSIS AT THE ALKALI CREEK SITE (32DU336), DUNN COUNTY, NORTH DAKOTA

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings

Year: 1991

Summary

Deposits of the Alkali Creek Site are associated with Paleoindian

occupations and later prehistoric occupations in Dunn County, west-central North

Dakota. The sequence represents deposition from the Goshen level (9,600 to

11,300 BP) until approximately 1000 BP near the surface with a hiatus in the

Altithermal. Stratigraphic pollen and phytolith analyses of sediments from two

stratigraphic columns at this site provides information of local and regional

vegetation communities, allowing an interpretation of paleoenvironmental

conditions.
