MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS OF TWO SAMPLES FROM THE CHIEF OURAY HOMESITE, 5MN847, IN WESTERN COLORADO

Author(s): Kathryn Puseman

Year: 1991

Summary

Two samples from the lower organic levels of what is believed to be Chief

Ouray's privy were examined for macrofloral remains. The privy was located at

the Chief Ouray Homesite, 5MM847, near Montrose, Colorado. Artifacts recovered

from these lower levels of the privy suggest a late 1870's Genizaro occupation

(Monte Sarriburg, personal communication, April 9, 1991). Macrofloral analysis

addresses components of the diet.
