POLLEN, PHYTOLITH, MACROFLORAL AND CHARCOAL ANALYSIS AT SITES 44HN175 AND 44HN176, VIRGINIA

Author(s): Kathryn Puseman; Linda Scott Cummings

Year: 1991

Summary

Two prehistoric archaeological sites (44HN175 and 44HN176) were sampled to

recover paleoenvircomental information. The upper levels were determined to be

affected by historic cultivation, so samples from Levels 1 and 2 (usually to a

depth of approximately 20 cm) were not examined. All samples were examined for

pollen, phytoliths, macrofloral, and charcoal evidence to reconstruct the past

environment and to attempt to identify any activity areas.
