POLLEN ANALYSIS AT THE HELEN LOOKINGBILL SITE (48ER308), WYOMING

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings

Year: 1991

Summary

The 1991 excavations at the Helen Lookingbill site (48FR308) included

collection of pollen samples to provide information concerning paleoenvironmental conditions. Stratigraphic samples examined for their pollen range in age from

the oldest deposits, which include both Neoglacial and Anatfrermal/Mtithermal

deposition (6000-3500 BP and 10000-6000 BP) to historic deposits. Relatively few pollen samples were examined spanning this long interval, since the sediments were shallow. The stratigraphic column selected for pollen sampling was correlated in the field with gecanorphic examinations. In addition to examining a single stratigraphic column for paleoenvironmental information, a single soil sample was examined from the block excavations and two manos were washed to recover pollen and starch that might indicate food processing activities.
