POLLEN AND MACROFLCRAL ANALYSIS AT SITE 5DV3017, DENVER, COLORADO

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings; Kathryn Puseman

Year: 1991

Summary

Samples from Site 5DV3017 were examined for pollen andmacrofloral remains.

Radiocarbon dates suggest that this site is a multicoannpanent site, and place use

of the features at different times during the Mid-Archaic to Mid-Ceramic,

approximately 3520 to 630 B.P. Samples were taken from pithouse, hearth, and

storage features to identify subsistence activities at this site. In addition,

pollen samples were examined from one surface area and from two control columns

to provide modern control and reconstruction of past local vegetation. The

stratigraphic pollen samples collected fran the backhoe trench outside of the

main activity area also provide a measure of control for interpreting the pollen

recovered from the features.
