ANALYSIS OF A PREHISTORIC FISH HOOK FROM 42UN199, DINOSAUR NATIONAL PARK

Summary

A prehistoric fishhook, recovered from a storage facility at 42UN199, was

examined to determine construction materials. The wattle and daub storage

structure yielded a radiocarbon age of 1290 + 50 BP (AD 754). The fishhook was

constructed of a wood shaft, a bone barb, and was hafted with fiber secured by

resin. Analysis focused on identification of the wood and fiber and description

of the fiber twist.
