PHYTOLITH ANALYSIS OF A MAMMOTH TOOTH FROM THE DENT SITE, COLORADO

Summary

A second upper left molar of a female mammoth was obtained to wash for

phytoliths to determine plants incorporated in this mammoth's diet. The tooth

has been curated at the Denver Museum of Natural History, and had been coated

with a layer of varnish. The varnish was removed and the tooth washed to obtain

a phytolith record trapped in the tartar of this tooth.
