STRATIGRAPHIC POLLEN ANALYSIS OF AGRICULTURAL TERRACE SEDIMENTS AT SITE 50-QA-G5-85, OAHU, HAWAI'I

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings

Year: 1992

Summary

Site 50-Qa-G5-85 is located in upland Kane'ohe on the windward side of

Oahu. Pondfield cultivation at this extensively terraced site appears to have

spanned the time period AD 500 or 600 to post-AD 1600 (Allen 1987 :xi) . Twelve

samples represent stratigraphic deposits on an agricultural terrace in excavation

unit 35, while the thirteenth sample was collected from Feature 35, also part of

an agricultural terrace. Pollen analysis was undertaken to define prehistoric

vegetation in the vicinity of this site, as well as to attempt to identify plants

grown in the irrigated agricultural terraces represented in unit 35.
