POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT THE GILA BUTTE SITE (AZ U:13:8(ASM)), ARIZONA
Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings; Kathryn Puseman
Year: 1993
Summary
INTRODUCTION
Samples from a small burned fieldhouse and an associated trash deposit at
Site AZ U: 13:8 (ASM) were sampled for pollen and macrofloral remains. This site
is a Preclassic and Classic ballcourt village, and the fieldhouse and trash
deposit appear to date to the Sacaton phase. Pollen and macrofloral analyses
provide information concerning items discarded in the trash and possible
subsistence activities. In addition, pollen samples were examined from Sedentary
or Classic period lateral and distribution canals and from a Classic period main
canal to provide information about crops grown in nearby fields.
