POLLEN ANALYSIS OF BURIED STRATA AND HEARTHS AT BOCA DE POTRERILLOS, NUEVO LEON, MEXICO

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings

Year: 1993

Summary

Two buried strata, which bracket a buried hearth yielding a radiocarbon age

of 4780 BP, were examined for pollen to determine past vegetation on the local

alluvial plain before and after this date. A soil sample from the base of a

modern arroyo, which was associated with a humate date of 2950 B.P., was also

examined to provide paleoenvironmental date. In addition, hearth fill from a

feature dated to 6925 BP was examined to provide evidence of subsistence

activities. Charcoal samples from four hearths were also submitted for

identification. Two hearths from Lama San Pedro also were examined for pollen.
