POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT SITES AR-03-04-06-703 AND AR-03-04-06-722 IN COCONINO NATIONAL FOREST, CENTRAL ARIZONA

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings; Kathryn Puseman

Year: 1994

Summary

Samples from Sites AR-03-04-06-703 and AR-03-04-06-722 in central Arizona

were examined for pollen and macrofloral remains. Site AR-03-04-06-703 is a

three to five room pueblo, possibly with two components. Ceramic artifacts

suggest that the site was occupied by the southern branch of the Sinagua. Site

AR-03-04-06-722 is believed to be an Archaic site. The diversity of the lithic

assemblage may indicate that this site represents a longer-term habitation,

possibly a base camp or residential site. Pollen and macrofloral analyses are

used to address subsistence activities at these two sites.
