POLLEN ANALYSIS OF STRATIGRAPHIC SAMPLES FROM THE KAPI'OLANI BUSINESS DISTRICT, HONOLULU, ISLAND OF O'AHU

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings

Year: 1994

Summary

Nine soil samples were collected stratigraphically for pollen analysis from

the Kapi'olani business district in downtown Honolulu. These samples represent

Strata II through IV. Pollen analysis was undertaken to identify prehistoric

vegetation in the area identified as Kewalo. Since Kewalo was located between

two densely populated areas, Kbu and Waikiki, it may have been influenced by

activities associated with these areas. The pollen record was examined to

identify local activities at Kewalo.
