POLLEN ANALYSIS OF FOUR SITES ON THE MOGOLLON RIM, ARIZONA

Author(s): Linda J. Scott; PaleoResearch Institute

Year: 1987

Summary

Four sites located at the edge of the Mogollon Rim near Show Low were

sampled for their pollen content. These sites are located near the vicinity

of Show Low within five miles of the Mogollon Rim. in eastern Arizona. All

four sites are considered to be farmsteads, which are larger than field

houses, but not large enough to be considered residential sites. All of the

sites appear to be 4-6 room roomblocks and exhibit extramural features.

Sites NA 18, 175 and NA 18, 216 are roughly contemporaneous and appear to

have been occupied after AD 950. Site NA 18, 422 appears to have been

occupied approximately AD 1025 while NA 17, 955 appears to have been

occupied approximately AD 1010. A total of 40 pollen samples were examined

from these four sites to gather data to answer questions concerning

subsistence strategies employed at these sites.
