POLLEN, PHYTOLITH, AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT SITES IN THE U.S. NAVAL RESERVATION, FENA VALLEY WATERSHED, GUAM
Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings; Kathryn Puseman
Year: 1996
Summary
Soil samples from several sites in the U.S. Naval Reservation in the central portion of
southern Guam were analyzed for pollen, phytoliths, and macrofloral remains. These sites
consist of prehistoric latte sets, overhangs, and artifact scatters. Pollen, phytolith, and
macrofloral analyses may be used to provide information concerning plant resources that were
utilized by the various occupants of these sites. Starch granules, when present, are noted in the
pollen and phytolith samples. Evidence for utilization of agricultural crops was of particular
interest.
