Summary
A single soil sample from the dark, charcoal-rich fill of an oval, fire-cracked rock cluster
at Site 44RU33 in southwest Virginia was floated to recover macrofloral remains. This feature
may represent a prehistoric hearth or a historic fire pit. Macrofloral analysis will document
charred plant remains present in this feature and may help in determining the age and/or
function of the feature.
