POLLEN ANALYSIS OF LOW TERRACE GRAVELS, SOUTH PLATTE RIVER, COLORADO

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings; Thomas E. Moutoux

Year: 1997

Summary

Pollen analysis was undertaken on four samples from clay lenses within gravel deposits

in the South Platte River valley north of Denver. Pollen analysis should provide a record of

vegetation for each of these clay lenses. If the pollen record is similar to that expected for the

Holocene, then the lens may be assumed to be Holocene; and if the pollen record is similar to

that expected for the Pinedale glacial advance, then the deposits may be assumed to be of

glacial age.
