Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings; Thomas E. Moutoux

Year: 1999

Summary

Site CA-SCL-674 represents a large prehistoric site containing over 200 burials and

numerous mortars, as well as other artifacts. Four mortars were selected for analysis to provide

information concerning food processing and possibly inclusion of foods within burials. To assist in

interpreting the record recovering from washing the interiors of the mortars, four control samples

were examined from the sediment fill of the mortars. A single bone tube recovered from this site

was submitted for pollen and phytolith analysis to assist in identifying the use of this unusual object.

Radiocarbon ages ranging from 2000 to 2500 BP provide a time framework for occupation.
