POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT SITE 26CK415, NEVADA

Author(s): Kathryn Puseman; Linda Scott Cummings

Year: 1999

Summary

Samples from a column through Unit F-6 in Flaherty Rockshelter, Site 26CK415, in

southern Nevada were analyzed for pollen and macrofloral remains. This unit was located

directly in the center of the rockshelter near several rock-lined cists. Several botanic samples

from the rockshelter also were examined. This large rockshelter in the northern Las Vegas

Valley was excavated between 1967 and 1969. Samples are being analyzed as part of the Apex

Project. Uncalibrated conventional radiocarbon dates from material in this rockshelter yielded

dates ranging from 5190 + 70 to 130 + 40 BP. Pollen and macrofloral analyses are used to

provide information concerning plant resources available to and possibly utilized by the various

rockshelter occupants.
