POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS OF SAMPLES FROM THE COAL STREET EXTENSION PROJECT, WILKES-BARRE, PENNSYLVANIA
Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings; Kathryn Puseman
Year: 2001
Summary
Two sediment samples were collected from depths of 9 feet and 10-11 feet below the
surface, apparently within prehistoric fill of a backhoe trench for the Coal Street Extension. Pollen
and macrofloral analysis were conducted on these samples to identify plants represented in these
records and to examine the record of vegetation. In addition, analysis of these samples was
considered exploratory because pollen analysis had not been attempted on sediments from this
area previously.
