EXAMINATION OF CHARCOAL SAMPLES FOR RADIOCARBON DATABLE MATERIAL FROM ALONG RAPID CREEK, SOUTH DAKOTA
Author(s): Kathryn Puseman
Year: 2004
Summary
Four charcoal samples from along Rapid Creek, South Dakota, were floated to recover
organic fragments suitable for radiocarbon analysis. These samples were recovered from a
soil pit excavated on a river terrace adjacent to Rapid Creek, about one mile downstream of
Pactola Dam. Botanic components and detrital charcoal were identified, and potentially
radiocarbon datable material was separated.
