STRATIGRAPHIC POLLEN ANALYSIS AT THE RATTLESNAKE SOUGH SITE, 34GR4, OKLAHOMA

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings

Year: 2006

Summary

Fifteen samples collected stratigraphically from the Rattlesnake Slough site (34GR4)

were examined for pollen. Nine of the samples represent a column collected from Test Unit 2

as contiguous 10 cm block samples. Two soil dates anchor the bottom and top of the area

sampled in TU 2 as 8200 ± 100 BP and 6080 ± 110 BP, respectively. A modern surface

sample also was examined. The remaining 5 samples were collected in 5 cm increments from

soil core #3. A radiocarbon age of 9730 ± 60 BP was obtained from the bottom of a buried soil

in core #4.
