POLLEN ANALYSIS OF SAMPLES FROM A SITE (KOLOA-26) ON THE SOUTHERN COAST OF KAUA’I HAWAI’I
Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings
Year: 2008
Summary
Site Koloa-26 yielded a single possible pre-contact soil sample for pollen analysis. The
purpose of the analysis is to determine if the sample area was utilized by pre-contact (pre-AD
1778) traditional Hawaiians for the cultivation of wetland taro or as a pond to raise fish. In
addition, a signature of the pre-AD 1778 vegetation, prior to the modern human-induced
changes to the landscape, is sought.
