STRATIGRAPHIC POLLEN ANALYSIS AT PUNAHOOLAPA MARSH, OAHU

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings

Year: 1987

Summary

The Punahulapa Marsh is located in the lowland Kahuku coastal plain

along the north shore of Oahu. This plain receives moderate rainfall

averaging 30-40 inches annually, and is receives severe exposure to the

northeast trade winds. The large quantity of rainfall received by the Koolau

Range results in more rapid alluviation of the lower plain than is observed

on the leeward side of the island. The marsh is located near sea level, and

the elevation of this area, including the coastal sand dunes, varies from 0-

30 feet above sea level.
