POLLEN, FTIR, XRD MINERAL IDENTIFICATION, MACROFLORAL, AND AMS RADIOCARBON ANALYSIS FOR SITES 41EP1621, 41EP1623, 41EP5622, 41EP5815, AND 41EP5849, FORT BLISS MILITARY RESERVATION, TEXAS

Summary
Samples were submitted for analysis from five sites (41EP1621, 41EP1623, 41EP5622,
41EP5815, and 41EP5849) on the Fort Bliss Military Reservation, Texas. These sites are
believed to represent Formative occupations of the area from AD 200-1450. Two pieces of
groundstone and two sherd samples were submitted for pollen, starch, and organic residue
analysis, the latter using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Two small stones
were sent for x-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The floated light fraction from thirteen
macrofloral samples and fifteen charcoal/botanic samples were examined to recover charred
material appropriate for AMS radiocarbon dating. A total of 16 AMS radiocarbon dates were
obtained.
