POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSES AT A MULTI-COMPONENT WOODLAND SITE IN ARAPAHOE COUNTY, COLORADO

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings

Year: 1987

Summary

Pollen and macrofloral analyses were conducted in conjunction with

archaeological mitigation at 5AH380. This multi-component site yielded

features that dated between AD 330 and AD 920. As least four occupations

are represented at this site and a paleosol was recovered the same level as

Feature 9, which yielded a radiocarbon age of 1070 + 100 BP (AD 880).

Pollen samples were collected from a stratigraphic profile in Trench 5 to

address paleoenvironmental conditions on the Plains for the past several

thousand years. Both pollen and macrofloral samples were collected from

seven features at this site to provide a subsistance base for the analysis

of the vegetable portion of the diet.
