Summary
Fill from seven hearth features at site LA126455 in Roswell, Chaves County, southeast
New Mexico were examined for pollen and macrofloral remains. Fire cracked rock from one of
the hearths was examined for organic residues using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy
(FTIR). After identification, samples of charcoal from these hearths was radiocarbon dated.
Macrofloral, pollen, and organic residue analysis will be used to provide subsistence information
concerning plant resources utilized by the prehistoric occupants of the site.
