POLLEN ANALYSIS FOR SITE AZ:FF:10:74 AND AMS RADIOCARBON DATES AND POLLEN, PHYTOLITH, AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSES FOR SITE AZ:FF:12:59, ARIZONA

Summary

Four pollen samples from a column in a trench at site AZ:FF:10:74 in southeast Arizona

were examined to provide paleoenvironmental and possible subsistence information. Samples

from several hearths and roasting pits both within and outside a pit structure at site AZ:FF:12:59

were floated to obtain charred macrofloral remains for identification and AMS radiocarbon

dating. In addition, two samples from postholes in the pit structure were analyzed for pollen and

phytoliths. Macrofloral, pollen, and phytolith analyses will be used to provide subsistence

information concerning plant resources utilized by the prehistoric occupants of the site. A total

of 14 AMS radiocarbon dates were obtained on charcoal or charred seeds recovered from the

macrofloral samples.
