Summary

Samples from features at sites CA-SBR-9957, CA-SBR-10073, and FS 05-12-53-144 in

southern California were examined for macrofloral remains. Sites CA-SBR-10073 and CA-SBR-

9957 were recorded as part of the Baldy Mesa OHV Survey and represent prehistoric

vegetation processing and lithic reduction activity areas that appear to have been seasonally

and repeatedly occupied for plant gathering and processing activities. These two sites are

believed to have been occupied during the Archaic. Site FS 05-12-53-144 is an isolated

prehistoric thermal feature defined by a circular arrangement of pebbles, cobbles, and small

boulders. Macrofloral analysis will be used to provide subsistence information concerning plant

resources utilized by the various occupants of these sites.
