MACROFLORAL, CHARCOAL/WOOD, AND PHYTOLITH ANALYSIS AT CA-SBA-1010, CALIFORNIA
Author(s): Kathryn Puseman; Linda Scott Cummings
Year: 2002
Summary
Sediment samples from site CA-SBA-1010 on Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, were
floated to recover macrofloral remains. Individual charcoal/wood samples also were submitted for
identification. Macrofloral analysis is used to provide information concerning plant resources
available to and utilized by the occupants of this site. Two mortars also were washed for phytoliths
to recover evidence of plants processed using these tools. Radiocarbon dates suggest that the
site was occupied from the late Early Period through the middle part of the Middle Period (1100
B.C. and A.D. 700).
