Intensive Cultural Resources Survey of the Pappy’s Landing Tract

Summary

In March 2007, Brockington and Associates, Inc., conducted an intensive cultural

resources survey of approximately 9.0 acres within the Pappy’s Landing Tract on Daufuskie

Island in Beaufort County, South Carolina. These investigations were conducted for Dolphin

Management, Inc., of Bay Shore, New York. The cultural resources survey includes a review of

land ownership and use recorded in public documents, a review of previous investigations on and

near the tract, examination of architectural resources on the tract, and the excavation of shovel

tests at 15- and 30-meter intervals across the tract. This cultural resources survey was

undertaken to provide information concerning the kinds of cultural resources present on the tract

and how future use of the tract may affect these resources. This cultural resources survey

provides compliance with current state and federal regulations regarding the management of

cultural resources in the Coastal Zone of South Carolina as administered by the regulatory

program of the South Carolina Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management.
