Year: 2004

Summary

"In February 2004, Brockington and Associates, Inc., conducted an intensive cultural resources survey of 93 hectares of the 476 hectare Jasper County Airport Tract in Jasper County, South Carolina. The project tract lies north and west of private lands, and south and east of SC Route 652 and US Route 278. This survey provides compliance with local, state, and federal regulations concerning the management of cultural resources in the Coastal Zone of South Carolina.

Archaeologists identified no archaeological sites, no isolated finds, nor any other cultural resources in the survey area. There are no historic properties in or adjacent to the project tract. Further management consideration of the Jasper County Airport Tract with respect to cultural resources is not warranted."

Notes

General Note: "Brockington and Associates, Inc., conducted a cultural resources survey of 93 hectares of the 476 hectare Jasper County Airport Project Tract, in Jasper County, South Carolina. These investigations included background research, architectural survey, and archaeological survey. No historic buildings were identified on or near the project tract. Land disturbing activities in the 93 hectare portion of the Jasper County Airport Project Tract will not affect any historic properties, and should be allowed to proceed as planned. If, during ground disturbing activities, previously unidentified cultural resources are encountered within the project tract, the construction contractors should halt work in the immediate area of the cultural resource and immediately notify the South Carolina SHPO. Archaeological materials consist of any items, fifty years or older, which were made or used by humans. These items include, but are not limited to, stone projectile points (arrowheads), ceramic sherds, bricks, worked wood, bone, or stone metal and glass objects, and human skeletal remains. These materials may be present on the ground surface and/or under the surface of the ground."
