MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS OF SHELL MIDDEN FILL FROM SITE 8MA1165, FLORIDA
Author(s): Kathryn Puseman
Year: 2013
Summary
Two samples from a Manasota shell midden on the southeast side of Tampa Bay in west-central Florida were examined for macrofloral remains. The midden contained shell from a variety of shellfish, as well as faunal bone and pottery. Diagnostic pottery reflects the Early Manasota period (500 BC to AD 300), Late Manasota period (AD 300-700), and Safety Harbor period (AD 900-1500), indicating a long period of site use. Macrofloral analysis is used to provide subsistence information concerning plant resources available to the occupants of this site.
