POLLEN SAMPLES FROM EXCAVATIONS AT THE WARD VILLAGE SHOPS PIER 1 PARKING LOT, HONOLULU AHUPUA’A, KONA DISTRICT, O’AHU ISLAND

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings

Year: 2013

Summary

Two soil samples collected from excavations at the Ward Village Shops Pier 1 Parking Lot were submitted for pollen analysis. An organic-rich “peaty” clay stratum that was identified beneath layers of imported fill was examined because it might represent an agricultural deposit or a natural low-lying marsh deposit. Pollen analysis was conducted to identify whether or not evidence for agriculture was present.
