Summary
This working paper is an attempt to assemble in a narrative format a number of
analyses recently carried out on the domestic mammal bones from the sites of
Hofstaðir (HST) and Sveigakot (SVK) in Mývatnssveit N Iceland excavated 1996-
2001. The current objective is really to pass information on to our collaborators
and to encourage discussion and critique (please do). The collections compared
come from midden fill of two pit houses (HST G and SVK T) and from a
widespread sheet midden M at Sveigakot. Taphonomic signatures (not
discussed here) indicate that these are broadly similar deposits and thus suitable
for comparison, and all contexts compared generated large identifiable fragment
counts.
