MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS OF HEARTH FILL FROM THE MB #33 PRECONTACT SITE, SARATOGA COUNTY, NEW YORK
Author(s): Kathryn Puseman
Year: 2013
Summary
Fill from a stratified hearth at the MB #33 Precontact Site in Saratoga County, New York, was floated to recover macrofloral remains. This hearth was excavated as part of the Mohican-Battenkill Transmission Line Rebuild Project in the town of Moreau. Recovery of Iroquoian pottery from the hearth fill and a radiocarbon date of 650 ±30 RCYBP (Beta-339848) for charcoal from the hearth fill reflect a Late Woodland occupation. Charred macrofloral remains will provide information concerning plant resources processed in the hearth.
