EXAMINATION OF BULK SOIL/DETRITAL CHARCOAL AND AMS RADIOCARBON AGE DETERMINATION OF MATERIAL FROM SITES LPC2, LPC3, LPC4 and LPC5 ALONG THE LITTLE PANOCHE RIVER IN FRESNO COUNTY, CALIFORNIA

Author(s): Peter Kováčik

Year: 2014

Summary

One bulk soil and twelve detrital charcoal samples from sites LPC2, LPC3, LPC4, and LPC5 along the Little Panoche River in Fresno County, California, were floated to recover organic fragments suitable for radiocarbon age determination. These samples were recovered from terraced bank exposures near the towns of Los Banos and Mendota, in northern San Joaquin Valley. Botanic components and detrital charcoal were identified, and potentially radiocarbon datable material was separated. Six radiocarbon dates were obtained on charcoal recovered from these samples.
