Report on Field Investigations at Pulltite Relevant to Instation a Shower Structure, Wastewater Force Main, and a Waterwater Leach Field, Ozarks National Scenic Riverways, Shannon County, Missouri

Summary
James E. Price was instructed to conduct a Phase I cultural resources assessment of the direct impact zone for the proposed installation of a new restroom/shower structure, a wastewater force main, and a wastewater leach field at Pulltite on the Current River, Shannon County. The installation is proposed to take place in the west-central part of the Pulltite Developed Area.
On March 8, 2000 James E. Price, Ozark National Scenic Riverways Archeologist and Renata Coleman, Archeological Technician, visited the locus of the proposed undertaking. The project area was examined by Price and Coleman and its location was assessed relative to known previously-recorded cultural resource sites at Pulltite. Also a preliminary Phase I survey was conducted at that time. Oue site, an historic, circa 1900-1955, houseplace with an associated stone-lined cellar pit, was located immediately south of the proposed project area. A current service road passes between the cellar pit on the lower ridge slope and the locus where the historic dwelling structure stood. Although the planned project force main between the shower house/restrooms and the leach fields passes close to the historic cellar pit, it will not adversely impact the site.
The installation is necessary due to the fact that visitor use at the Pulltite Campground has increased dramatically to the point that by regulation, a new restroom facility containing showers must be constructed to accommodate the needs of campers and other visitors. The new facility will generate a large quantity of wastewater during tourist season thus necessitating the installation of leach fields and a force main to conduct wastewater from the new structure and the leach field.
