Summary

The U.S. Army Engineer District, St. Louis, has been designated the Corps' Mandatory Center of Expertise for the Curation and Management of Archaeological Collections. We have been tasked by the U.S. Army Environmental Center to locate and assess archaeological collections derived from Army-owned lands, to identify the federally recognized Native American tribes most likely culturally affiliated with the collections, to draft Section 6 Summary letters for each installation, and to conduct physical inventories of any collections that reportedly contain human skeletal remains or associated funerary objects to aid the Army in its effort to comply with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (P.L. 101-601).
