Finding Aid, Grandview Area 1978
Summary
This collection is referred to as "Grandview Area 1978.” This name is consistent throughout the finding aid, the file folders, and the box labels. The extent of this collection is seven linear inches.
The Grandview Area 1978 document collection was contained within two acidic accordion folders in an acidic box that contained documentation from other Rockport Generating Station archaeological investigations. Five archaeological sites, 12SP284, 12SP286, 12SP289, 12SP303 and 12SP305, were associated with the Grandview Area 1978 project. Many of the documents had handwritten page numbers, which helped in the organization of the files and denoted which pages should be kept as a single unit. This collection, however, did contain documentation from the Honey Creek Area 1978 (Accession Number 1409/1409A). These materials were photocopied on acid-free paper and the copy was included with the Honey Creek Area 1978 collection.
Overall, the condition was good and the documents required only slight mending and cleaning. Some rust stains and water damage could not be removed.
Three photographs and twelve slides were removed from this collection and placed in an archival binder. The photographs were of the excavations at sites 12SP289 and 12SP303.
This collection included eight oversized items that were removed to oversized storage. These materials include hand drawn field maps, field maps, and background maps. The handwritten field maps were drawn on graph paper that was taped together with non-archival pressure-sensitive tape, which was removed and replaced with tissue mending tape. On some portions of the hand drawn maps, it was necessary to place mending tape on top of the non-archival pressure-sensitive tape that had been written on to maintain the pencil marks that were made on top of the original tape. The original field maps were scanned using an oversized scanner.
