Archeological surveys of the Keyhold Resevoir were conducted in 1948, 1950 adn 1951. Twenty-nine sites were found. these sites were revisited and 18 additional sites were discovered between October 7 and November, 1, 1950. Twenty-two of the previously located sites were revisited and 13 new sites were found by a field party which carried out a program of excavation and survey work in the resevoir between June 25 and September 25, 1951.
A paleontological reconnaissance of the area was made in one day during the summer of 1948 by Theodore E. White, paleontologist. The archeological investigations consisted of extensive exploration and local inquiry. The sites were carefully searched for artifacts and other features, and numerous tests were dug in order to determine the nature and depth of cultural deposits. The sites were located on a reservoir map furnished by the Bureau of Reclamation, and site data, including sketch maps, were recorded on standard forms.
