The Lower Verde Archaeological Project, Laboratory Manual: Cultural Resource Mitigative Data Recovery Study at Archaeological Sites, Horseshoe and Bartlett Dams, Central Arizona Project
Editor(s): Carol J. Ellick; Stephanie M. Whittlesey
Year: 1991
Summary
The Lower Verde Archaeological Project is a long-term, sustained research effort combining the expertise of individuals in several related fields, including paleobotany, geomorphology and pedology, soil geography, petrography, and bioarchaeology along with archaeologists and skilled materials analysts. The laboratory manual reflects this multidisciplinary and cooperative project structure. It is the collaborative effort of a number of individuals, whose contributions are listed in the appropriate sections or chapters. The format used in this manual is based on The Roosevelt Rural Sites Study: Laboratory Manual (Shelley and others 1991). The Roosevelt manual was in turn designed to be comparable to that used by Arizona State University for the Roosevelt Platform Mound Study (Simon 1990), in order to achieve analytic comparability in both Roosevelt studies. By following the preceding format in the Lower Verde Archaeological Project Laboratory Manual, we hope to maintain continuity and analytic correspondence among projects that have similar research orientations and goals.
The Lower Verde Archaeological Project Laboratory Manual is designed to present our laboratory organization, data management, analysis, and documentation procedures, and analysis techniques by material category.
