Summary
In March 1998, St. Louis District personnel visited the Delaware Army National Guard (DEARNG) Headquarters in Wilmington and the Delaware State Historic Preservation Office in Dover to research archaeological and historic buildings survey work conducted on National Guard facilities in the state. This document reports the history of cultural investigations on federally owned or federally supported DEARNG facilities, discusses historic contexts and predictive models, and provides a list of Native American tribes that may be culturally affiliated to archaeological collections recovered from DEARNG facilities. To date, 47 historic properties have been recorded on Bethany Beach Training Site and New Castle Rifle Range. No cultural properties located on DEARNG facilities have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places, but five buildings at New Castle Rifle Range have been determined potentially eligible, and Bethany Beach Training Site has been determined eligible as a historic district. No archaeological work has been conducted on either Bethany Beach Training Site or New Castle Rifle Range.
