Finding Aid, Lafayette Lake 1977
Summary
The Veterans Curation Program utilizes the standard archival practice of unique naming of collections. The purpose of this practice is to avoid redundant and confusing collection names commonly found with archaeological investigations. Therefore, this collection is referred to as “Lafayette Lake 1977.” This name is consistent throughout the finding aid, the file folders, and the box labels. The extent of this collection is two and a half linear inches.
Lafayette Lake 1977 was contained within four acidic folders in an acidic box along with other document collections. The document collection was not found in any particular order and was found in fair condition.
The collection contained seven oversized materials, which were all maps of the Lafayette Lake area. Non-archival pressure-sensitive tape was removed from six of the maps. It was not necessary to replace the tape with tissue mending tape; however, a few tears were mended using the tissue tape. The maps were humidified, flattened, scanned with an oversized scanner, and placed in oversized storage.
An additional record series, Catalog Records, was created to house the Glenn A. Black Laboratory of Archaeology artifact catalog for this investigation. These two files were sent to the VCP electronically, printed on acid free paper, and housed with the associated documentation. Scanned asset numbers were not assigned, because the files were uploaded into the digital imaging database directly from the file sent by GBL.
