Archaeological Data Recovery Along the Hohokam Expressway Corridor Including Portions of Pueblo Grande, Phoenix, Arizona: Research Design and Scope of Work
Author(s): John S. Cable
Year: 1988
Summary
This document outlines Soil Systems, Inc.'s (SSI) proposed data recovery plan for the identified cultural resources of the Hohokam Expressway. The information contained herein is based on an earlier document (Cable 1988) that described the results of archaeological testing in the corridor and identified a series of research domains to which the resources could most efficiently and productively contribute through data recovery. The data recovery plan is divided into six sections including this introduction. Section 2 presents a brief overview of the results of the testing program as presented in Cable 1988. Section 3 contains the research design that will guide the field work and analyses. The research design focuses on two main research topics: socio-economic interaction and paleoenvironmental analyses. The broad topic of socio-economic interaction addresses interrelated variables from material culture, architectural, and mortuary practices data sets and generates expectations and test implications to be addressed by the various analytical programs. Paleoenvironmental analyses include canal studies, geomorphology, and environmental reconstructions of the prehistoric natural and physical environments. Section 4 discusses field sampling considerations. Section 5 presents the scope of work; i.e., the various project activities are identified and the levels of effort are estimated. Section 6 delineates the management organization and presents the project consultant team and a schedule for completing the tasks outlined in Section 5. The proposed budget has been submitted to ADOT under separate cover.
