Finding Aid, Rockport Site N.D.

Part of the Rockport Site N.D. project

Author(s): Sean Box

Summary

This collection referred to as "Rockport Site N.D.” This name is consistent throughout the finding aid, the file folders and the box labels. The extent of this collection is a quarter of a linear inch. The Rockport Site N.D. came in an acidic box along with several acidic brown accordion folders that contained documentation from other Rockport Generating Station archaeological

investigations. The Rockport Site N.D. consisted of one report record, entitled Test Excavation at the Probable Archaeological Site at Bore Stations N130-E925, E925, N155, E925, N180 Indiana-Michigan Electric Company Rockport Plant Rockport, Indiana. The final report record consisted of one map of the Rockport Plant Site, site drawings of trenches, and a final report by Robin Johnson and John T. Dorwin. The report had a few dirt smudges that required minor cleaning, but the overall condition was good. The report housing consisted of plastic binding and a clear, plastic cover. The accession number, 1420, was written on the front cover in black USACE- Louisville District Rockport Site

No Date John T Dorwin and Robin Johnson, Principal Investigators 4 permanent marker. The report cover was cleaned and most of the dirt smudges were removed from the report document using an eraser. The report was placed into an acid-free folder, scanned, and re-boxed with other documentation from Rockport Generating Station archaeological investigations. There were no photographic or oversized materials present. The date of the collection was not indicated, but it is believed by the processing archivist that it dates prior to 1980. The processing archivist also curated the Rockport Site 1980, which included a report entitled Archaeological Testing at a Probable Archaeological Site (12SP42), Rockport Generating Station, Spencer County, Indiana. This report lists the Rockport Site N.D. report in the references cited section, and it attributed the date of 1979 to the report. Therefore, it can be assumed that the report, Test Excavation at the Probable Archaeological Site at Bore Stations N130-E925, E925, N155, E925, N180 Indiana-Michigan Electric Company Rockport Plant Rockport, Indiana, dates to 1979, but the archivist did not assign this date to the collection, because it was not recorded on any of the original documentation.
