Summary
Between April 12th, and June 25th, 2010, Brockington and Associates, Inc., conducted intensive cultural resources survey at 2,738 acres at four different mitigation projects within the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Memphis District in northeastern Arkansas, southeastern Missouri, and western Tennessee. Geoarchaeology Research Associates (GRA) was contracted by Brockington and Associations to conduct geomorphological investigations as part of those investigations. Volume 4 presents the geomorphological investigations for the project areas. Ultimately, tracts selected for field investigations were chosen based on: accessiblility; the potential for landforms to preserve archeological remains; and settings that could yield significant site/landform correlations based on reliability of procurable and reliable field and laboratory data. Discussions with COE archaeologists refined this approach with an eye towards fulfilling objectives of the Section 110 inventory, contribution to the regional archaeological record, and aiding in the management of other COE and public lands.
